Here’s some other books to help you with NaNoWriMo as long as you’re at it:
2k to 10k: Writing Faster, Writing Better, and Writing More of What You Love
I highly recommend this little book. It’s only $.99 and it’s excellent. It’s based on the author’s blog posts but definitely worth downloading to your kindle and reading several times.
Professional Plot Outline Mini-Course
Holly Lisle’s has a whole library of books on writing, and they are invariably useful. This is one I’ve read lately, but you can also find books on world building, character and specialty subjects, such as horses.
Write-A-Thon: Write Your Book in 26 Days (And Live to Tell About It)
This one covers writing nonfiction as well as fiction, and leaves you four extra days… let’s face it, you always lose at LEAST four days in the month, especially November.
The 90-Day Novel: Unlock the story within
I think 90 days is probably more of a realistic time for a novel, if you count the preliminary world-building stage and post-draft revision stage. This book is more comprehensive and helps with those stages, not just extruding a draft as fast as possible. There are many exercises to help you truly connect with your characters. It’s strongly oriented toward character-based fiction.
I mentioned Seed Scenes in an earlier post and then forgot to share any from my WiP. Oops! Here’s some scenes from my draft.

Plot-wise, I can’t have Brandon travel in the flesh to the human world yet, so I cheated and devised a scene where they are BOTH spirit-walking in another dimesion. This is the scene when Brandon first meets Clare, from Chapter 2:
If you prefer these Tips as an ebook you can buy it here for $0.99:
Maybe it’s because I’m writing a holiday themed novel.
Maybe it’s because I usually wait until the last minute and then panic.
Maybe it’s because I’m planning a winter road trip with three kids.
But I’m thinking it’s not too soon to pick up some Christmas specials.
Ok, let’s start with the Duh, Of Course:
I haven’t seen this one, but it might hit the Warm and Romantic Christmas Chick Flick spot:
This one is totally dorky, but cute. I might be compelled to watch it again because I’m thinking about Christmas elves.
Here’s another one about Christmas elves which looks fun. I haven’t seen it yet.
And this one isn’t specifically a Christmas special, but it’s wintery. Also, we’re reading the book to our kids as the bedtime story (one chapter per night) and we all want to see the move.
