I love the internet because it&#8217;s easy to browse fields I would not normally consider. Sometimes, I don&#8217;t even realize they exist.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, science journals provide good leads for sf, for obvious reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Occassionally, however, my mind goes in a different direction.<\/p>\n<p>Consider <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ebmh.bmj.com\/cgi\/content\/extract\/11\/4\/127\"><b>maternal exposure to death<\/b><\/a> of a first degree relative during first trimester of pregnancy increases risk of schizophrenia in offspring.<\/p>\n<p>This immediately made me think, <i>No wonder earlier civilizations feared the newly dead might become ghosts to curse vulnerable pregant relatives.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>And <i>then<\/i> I thought &#8212; what if it were true? What if a close relative of your mother &#8212; her father or her sister &#8212; died while you were in the womb and it created a psychic bond between you? What if you were able to see and speak with the ghost for the rest of your life?
