So instead I expend a lot of useless brainpower worrying about finding myself in the shoes of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tobiasbuckell.com\/2009\/03\/19\/arctic-rising\/\"><b>Tobias Buckell.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Those of you familar with his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0765319209\/ref=nosim\/torhyth%22\"><b>kick-ass military science fiction<\/b><\/a> are probably snorting your coffee right now, thinking, &#8220;Yeah, Tara, you should be so lucky.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I like to write series. Ideally, the sales figures for a series should follow the trajectory of the books in the Harry Potter series, starting out modestly for Book 1 and reaching univeral distribution to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/books\/2008\/jun\/18\/harrypotter.news\"><b> every single literate human being<\/b><\/a> on the planet by Book 7. Unfortunately, it doesn&#8217;t always happen that way. <\/p>\n<p>What if sales for each book in my series decline?
