I stooped down and back-elbowed him across his jaw. His head fell sideways, but not for long, he turned to watch me but said nothing. I got up and slammed a good kick to his side. He winced but remained silent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you up to?\u201d I demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cKilling.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n

He smiled. \u201cIt\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m about to call Derek, but I\u2019d like to know what you\u2019re after first.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh\u2026 you\u2019re hilarious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll regret keeping me here, Annie. I can\u2019t afford to be captured right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, RIGHT, what was I thinking? I should have called ahead to schedule an appointment for your capture. I just didn\u2019t have your number!\u201d I watched him in disbelief.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have email or Twitter either. You know why?\u201d His lip twitched. \u201cI can\u2019t have followers.\u201d<\/p>\n

I heard a chuckle from behind.<\/p>\n

\u201cReally, Beth? You\u2019re going to encourage him?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat? No, it was just\u2026 I thought it was\u2026 funny,\u201d she finished saying in a low voice.<\/p>\n

I turned back to Nick and was about to grab his neck when I realized being that close to him would not be a good idea. If I allowed myself to get that close to him, he could hypnotize me to let him go, so instead, I kicked him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow you\u2019re just doing this for spite,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes.\u201d I kicked him again. \u201cYou started it at Worldsafe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you, ten? I pinch you, you pinch me? Actually, I wouldn\u2019t mind pinching you\u2026\u201d I was about to slam him again. \u201cNo, stop. Stop! Your kicks are more painful than mine. Stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny more requests? It seems you think you\u2019re in charge here,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust, wait, all right? Don\u2019t call Derek. Don\u2019t let anyone know I\u2019m here,\u201d Nick begged.<\/p>\n
