My sister loftily ignored the arrows of pique Cormac shot at her. While he dressed with minimum movement and maximum speed, she averted her gaze and addressed me. \u201cHe could have learned the name of the real Forest Ranger any number of ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe uniform fits him pretty well,\u201d I noted. Really well.<\/p>\n

Bryn snapped her attention back to Cormac. Her eyes bugged and her jaw slacked. Personally, I thought he\u2019d looked damn fine without a stitch on, but he did look dashing all gussied up, and Bryn had always had a thing for a man in uniform. On the other hand, Bryn had always had a thing for stubborn, too. She crossed her arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the uniform fits impeccably over his incredibly broad shoulders. That doesn\u2019t prove it belongs to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are one nutwing headcase, Lady. Take a look at my driver\u2019s license, if you still don\u2019t believe me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He tossed Bryn his wallet, which had been in his pocket. I crowded next to her to examine it over her shoulders.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis driver\u2019s license photo matches.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty suspicious,\u201d said Bryn. \u201cNobody looks that good in a driver\u2019s license photo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d he said dryly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd his badge,\u201d I added.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince when do Forest Rangers even have badges?\u201d asked Bryn.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd hey, look at this\u2026\u201d I pulled a folded up bit of paper from the wallet.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo!\u201d His face flamed bright pink. \u201cYou don\u2019t need to read that!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHa, now we\u2019ll see what you\u2019re hiding,\u201d Bryn said triumphantly.<\/p>\n

\u201cPretty sure we saw that already, Bryn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShut up, Roxy. Let\u2019s see what\u2026oh.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was a feature article from National Park Magazine, honoring Cormac Huntsman, with full color photographs. Bryn\u2019s face turned as pink as Cormac\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow,\u201d I said, perusing the article over Bryn\u2019s shoulder, \u201cDid you really evacuate a family from a burning house, save a seeing-eye dog from drowning, and rescue an endangered grizzly bear cub from poachers?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reporter made a much bigger deal out of that stuff than necessary,\u201d he muttered. \u201cIt was a team effort, I just happened to be point man a couple times. I was just doing my job\u2014any one of us would have done the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryn held her hand over her face. She hissed at me, \u201cRoxy, is your gun loaded?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSort of, uh\u2026\u201d \u2013with spirit bullets, but\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, please shoot me now. I can\u2019t believe I held a naked Forest Ranger at gun point.\u201d Her voice rose into the octave used by squeaking rodents. \u201cI called him a pervert!\u201d<\/p>\n
